Camshaft install
Camshaft install
I want to install a new camshaft. How hard is it once youve already installed the engine. It had really low specs and i dont have money for both heads and came so i thought i would do the cam first. Im also doing 1.6 rockers from my 1.5"s. Do you think a 3000 stall would be too much or do you need more info?
I have afr 195 heads with flat top pistons, and and edlebrock750 card with an air gap intake, headman headers and still neeed to do my posi. any info would be great.

its not really hard to install a cam inside a car.. it will just take time.. take off the whole front assembly(alternator, power steering, water pump, AC, etc), intake manifold, radiator, and possibly the front clip(just to make it easier).. then rockers come off, pushrods out, lifters out, oilpan dropped, timing cover off, then turn the motor to TDC, cam gear off, cam pulled out, new cam lubed and put in, cam gear and chain on, timing cover, oilpan, lifters, pushrods, rockers, intake manifold, etc..
the hardest part will be getting a seal back onto the oilpan.. once its broken, its hard to seal back up.. silicone will be your best friend here..

I already have an oil leak from the install so I guess I would make a day of it. Next question I would ask is what specs? I already get crappy mileage so its up in the air. I wuld be mostly high way mileage but hit the track a few times a years. Will be 3.42 gears.

here is a summit comparison page.. its all the solid rollers with peak RPM from 6500-7000.. happy hunting.. i probably wouldnt choose the ones that go to 7000.. duration is a bit high.. dont think you have the compression for it.. probably the ones that go to 6500 or 6600..
