Stock to Power, quickly.

If one were to take a stock camaro tbi 305 and wanted to get the most power for the least money wouldn't the only and fastest upgrades be:

Open Air Element Filter+Pan
Removal of Smog Pump
Removal of AC compressor and all AC hoses.
New Serpentine belt!

I can't think of any other mods for little or no cost for added HP and/or Torque Gain. Anyone else know some?

As the old saying goes, "Better, faster, cheaper - which two do you want?"

I don't see how removing the smog and A/C adds any power? If you're concerned about the parasitic drag of the air compressor, turn it off when you're drag racing. You could also remove the smog pump belt before going to the track.

If you're at a point where the weight savings from removing these systems will help you're probably past asking the "what is cheaper" questions.

Sounds like the two he wants is "faster" and "cheaper"

Sure you can remove all that stuff. Hey it will make the engine bay cleaner. But expect 2 hp gain to the wheels. Not enough for you to notice.

There is a science to horsepower and you need to lay down a good platform for your goals.

Exhaust and air. The more air you get in and out directly affects the horsepower ratio.

Get headers, exhaust, high flow air filter. This atleast you will feel at the seat of your pants.

My T-Tops used to leak and I felt that in the seat of my pants.

You need to make it a point to come up to Columbia the next time we have one of those things where we all sit around, drink and talk smack about other people's cars. Or let us know if y'all do something down there.

Don't expect much, then. With better and faster, you can do quite a bit.

If you haven't done so already, I'd spend my money on the things that will make the car run the best it can as it is. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fresh fluids, tune-up. These things will help it run better and might pay for themselves with mileage improvements. Then save your duckies for a nice exhaust. Keeping your car nice and well maintained is not compatible with hacking the a/c and smog stuff, IMO.

If you ever go to sell it, god forbid, the hack job will turn off most buyers.

Yeah, no one has any thirdgens here in savannah that want to hang out. There are a massive amounts of 4th gen clubs here but no one serious about 3rds. Just a bunch of 3rd gens with 22 inch rims that are jacked up with stupid paintjobs... but I won't go there.

I wanted to go to SC but it just hadn't sound promising because I want to have a good genuine day of crusing and shootin' the breeze with some good people. Not saying you guys aren't good people, just wanted to make sure my 3-4 hour drive was definately worth it.

Getting way off topic, but I'll let you know when it looks like something cool. Thinking about the Myrtle Beach thing too.
