Ok when it is cold outside lets say -10 my car will start right up with no problems on the first crank. When it is warmer outside lets say 50 my car hesitates to start. Even when the car is warmed up and has been running for 20-30 minutes after I shut it off and try to start it again it will hesitate to start taking extra cranks to fire up. Could this be caused by faulty timing?

same illnes

Hi my 87 350 tpi iroc has the same illnes but after it starts up after ten cranks its smokey due to fuel flooding it hasnt a carb.It could be the ecm saying its starting cold each time or cold start injector dumping fuel in on each start instead of switchind of at a certain temp.I have changed my temp sensor and cold start injector time switch wich are together at the front of the engine. The car isnt throwing any codes.I have a vac leak on my bottom runners passanger side at the back it could be that do you have a bit of oil in that area and a bit of a lumpy idle . It could also be leaky injectors or naf o2 sensor but i do think its all down to flooding. I had a bad fuel pump a few months back it buzzed like mad all the time and she wouldnt change in to third when driving hard i had to eas of the gas to get it to change up i drove it like this for several weeks before i pulled the tank and replaced it.But while this pump was playing up it started up first crank and no fuely smoke .Now the car is back to normal hard to start when warm I wonder if its fuel pressure.I wish i could be of more help but
its my first american car so still finding my way around it. If you do find a solution to the problem please let me know as it starting to **** me of.

Yup sounds like the same problem that I have. I asked my mechanic what the problem could be and he said that the timing could be off. which makes sense because my IROC idles at about 1100 RPM cold and warm. I also changed my plugs a while back to some Iridium plugs and on the plugs that came off were black and I forget which cylinder it was but one was black and was gassy so I agree that there is some flooding going on but I don't know which sensor to change or if I need a new cold start injector.

Hi my name is Roy in case you think i am a female my car is called aretha because she is big black and loud any way back to car problem the gassy plug could be a leaky injector.I have ngk iridium plugs also they are good.If your car is idling that high it could need adjusting or like your mechanic said could be the timing i would have the timing tested i have to renew my tpi runner gaskets when i get home. while the plenim is of i will have the cold start injector checked out so i will keep you posted on that.

No i didn't think that you were a female by the way lol i like the name "Aretha" and the explenation behind it thats good lol.
I also learned today that it may be just a simple adjustment to the thorottle body. But this would have nothing to with my car starting hard when warmed up. I haven't messed with my car lately other than trying to find a dam short which sucks. But if i figure it out you will be the first to know.
