Head Gaskets,
Alright, My engine was rebuilt 40,000 miles ago, With a Stock rebuild. Now I was Watching Horsepower TV on spike and they mentioned something about a thinner Head Gasket could Increase Valve Lift (Pending on how much thinner the the Head gasket is) and the same for compression. Now Im am really thinking.. I have ######193 Heads on my L05, (with the Larger Stump at the end of the port.) I was thinking of adding 1.6 Rockers as well as a Thinner Head Gasket.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
I have ######193 Heads
The only time that 1.6 rockers do anything, is when the valve opening is the flow limit; i.e., if you open the valve more, you get more flow. But if the valve is NOT the flow limit, like if you have these GIANT STUPID lumps in your intake tract, then opening the valve fartehr won't let in any more air.
Making a motor fast is more than just bolting on the parts that "everybody" uses. It's about figuring out the one thing that's keeping YOUR car slow, and attacking THAT ONE thing first. Any other approach will make the car faster only to the extent that the weight is reduced in the driver's wallet.

Thinner headgasket can increase valve lift ? That's a new one on me. I'd have to see someone explain that to me before I believe it.

Unless I am missing something really basic here..The thickness of the head gaskets should have no effect on valve lift. The valve opens said distance. If the head gaskets are .015 or .035 it should not matter. The valve still has to be adjusted properly. I can't see how it is going to change anything. Now changing the rocker ratio is a completly different story.

I agree. Lift? hahahahaha
The only thing that I see a thinner hg would accomplish is a hair more compression and better quench.

Not Sure what they Meant about the Head gasket thing.. I was Like WHAT?
I am Drag Racing My 1988 camaro.. with the 193 heads.. It runs low 9's in the 1/8mile with a 2.000 Second 60ft. and gets 25mpg All night long.. 2:73 rear gear.. Stock 305(LO3) 2 1/4" Exhaust.
Havent had it on the Interstate to see what kind of Highway mileage it gets..
So what would be worth the Time and money?
Shortie Headers 3" all the way, Hooker 2055's with a 3" Catback?
Thanks for the Info, I almost Bought the rockers and the whole Nine yards..

any exhaust upgrade will help the L03
but i think long tubes might be better in the long run if you plan on doing heads later on...
just a thought... wait till sofa comes on and tells me i am stupid then he will tell you the actual set up you should use

I Have a L05, And Shortie headers If i remember right Shorties Help Increase the HP/Torque in the higher RPM range.. I can Chirp through all the gear with foot resting on the throttle, but any more throttle than that theres just a regular shift.. at 4000rpm the shifts have a delay.. I think theres low Torque in that area.. I'd like to Dyno the thing.. But cant seem to find one.
