1LE Fuel Tank Conversion – Two Questions

After pouring through all the threads which covered this subject fairly thoroughly, I still question two items:
The Chevrolet tank has baffles, all the aftermarket tanks I found are described as “w/pan in tank”. Does anybody know if the pan works just as good as the baffles for eliminating fuel starvation in corners, or should I buy the Chevy tank at twice the price?
Is the longer 1LE sender required, or can the original TPI sender be extended to reach the very bottom of the tank?
Thanks!
Todd

1LE Fuel Tank Conversion - Two Questions

I guess for my first post to TGO I should not have picked a subject everyone is burned out on.
Can anyone out there give me their on my questions?
Will this gross application of smilies get me noticed?
They're fun to do anyhow.
Thanks

don't worry man , I don't get alot fo stuff replyed to . But I will offer an opinion .

I thought the whole idea of swapping to the 1LE was to get the 1le sender . It spins 360 deg . So I think you want to have it aswell no ?

I did not find any evidence that the 1LE sender swings or pivots. I thought that was just a rumor. Thanks.

Thanks for your input. From your responses I can assume the swinging pivot is a reality then. I was baffled by members such as Drew who posted on 8/16/06: "There is no larger tank, no swinging pickup, or anything along those lines..."

Now I'm disturbed about what I found shopping for the sender P/N 25027221. At newgmparts.com it lists numerous 6 cylinder applications. Here's the link:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=213815
I can't imagine they were putting swinging pickups in 6 poppers. Does anybody know what's up with this?

Thanks to 1989karr who recommended Quanta, they sell this sending unit, referencing the exact Chevy P/N, under #SUFG20A, for a reasonable $183. Now if I can only find out if it's the right one (6 cyl???!!!!).

Does anybody know if the "pan in tank" fuel tanks work just as well as Chevy baffled tanks?

Thanks!

The link I provided was shrunk somehow, here it is in two pieces:

I called Quanta, they pulled the sender off the shelf, guess what?
IT DOES NOT HAVE A PIVOT, EVERYTHING IS RIGID!!!
The only part that can move is the float.

Quanta P/N SUFG20A references in the detailed description, Chevy's P/N 25027221, the 1LE sender. They also verbally confirmed that it's a Chevy P/N listed in the description (and not some other number that by coincidience is the same).
So, back to the question that will never die: Does the 1LE sender pivot or not??
Maybe Quanta has got the wrong Chevy P/N.
Has someone purchased the sender directly from Chevy, and knows for sure?

I think you may be in an area that is not often discussed or pondered. It looks like you are doing the research that will answer this question for others. Did you go to the dealer and look at his parts and parts info? I think I would give that a try if you have not already.

Maybe the guys in the Auto Cross/Racing forum have some info.

Sorry ...it was just the terminalogy used when mentioned ....it's all I had to go on .... So it " swivels " not rotates ?

My question does not involve symantics.
Spins, swivels, rotates, gyrates, revolves, twists, twirls, swirls, whirls, whatever you want to call it, it all means the same to me.
The question is, does the 1LE sender do it?

net_coma: Thanks for the advice, I'll try autocross/roadrace guys.
My local Chevy dealers do not have them on the shelf for me to inspect, and I doubt I can talk one of them into ordering one with the option to return it if it doesn't swivel. The one from Quanta that doesn't swivel is half the price.

Forget all the crap about 1LE tanks, it's just not true.
It's just a large baffle like all the others.

I havent seen any evidence of any swiveling or rotating either. About the only difference I have seen is the fuel sock, thats pretty easy to change. Wouldnt make much sense for it to swivel or rotate or whatever anyway, it does not hang straight down from the top of the tank so it would have to be a pretty complex arrangement for it to have any movement that would make sense.
