plug wire help
I have had problems keeping a set of plug wire on my car. I keep putting msd 8.5's on and the boots keep getting heat and cracking, causing the car to missfire. The problem is the afr heads put the number 5 and 6 wire boots right next to the edelbrock headers. Has anyone had this happen? if so how did you fix it? I have put fiberglass boot slevees on and it does not help.

I have this same problem and I run with Moroso Ultra 40 wires and they have been great! a little spendy though!

alot of people will say to run Accel shorty plugs. I have a set of 8 right now and I must say.... NOT WORTH IT. they are not much shorter at all.
I use Taylor spyro core wires and have them right next to the headers, only time i have ever melted them was when one actualy touches a primary. i also run summit brand fire boots.

MSD and Moroso, others may also, make boot insulator sleeves for plug wires. You might try these to see if they eliminate your problem.

I can personally attest to the sleeves not working for Tylor or the MSD's. I have a set I will sell you cheap. The only thing the sleaves di was hide the arcing from a burnt wire making it harder to trouble shoot.
It is pricey but I have ordered a set of custom made Live Wires from D.U.I. Performance. I am also going to use those in conjunction with the accel plugs. I hope it works!

I have tried the short header plugs from accel and hate them. I just hate accel products more. The plugs foul out easy. And I don't trust them after A 6 MONTH migrain their injectors gave me. For the people that don't understand the ?. The plug wire themsleves are fine, its the boots that I am having problems with. Thanx for the suggestion, more welcomed.

Sorry I am having the boot burn throw were the spark plug connects to the wires. It happens most of the time when the car is wide open. Last time it took 3 good pulls and then went.
i had accell wires....and still do.. seem to be fine......i got 90 degree plug wires and turned them as far away from the header as possible *i got high temp wires* the other thing is which i didnt do is you could wrap your hedders....they sell jackets that you can put on after theyre already installed.........thats what i would do if you can keep from frying the plug wires....but the 90's work for me
