BIG BLOCK 454 ???

i know this has been asked [ THE ONLY DUMB QUESTION IS THE ONE NOT ASKED ] can i bolt a 700 tranny to a late model 454 ??? have a 454 being given to me , and have a doner tranny from a 91 camaro to put in a 72 p/u ? the 91 camaro is a rust bucket . cannot be saved . the 72 p/u is rough but will be at " cruisen the coast ,in 2007 " thanks uncle tom .

Yes. Big blocks and small blocks share the same bellhousing bolt pattern. Also, the torque converter will bolt onto the 454 flexplate (assuming it's the typical dual-bolt pattern flexplate with holes to match whatever torque converter you happen to be using). Big block flexplates are very similar to those on small blocks and they use the same two typical torque converter bolt patterns (big and little). The stock converter in any 3rd gen Camaro 700-R4 uses the "little" torque converter bolt pattern.

You may have to lightly clearance grind the bell housing to clear the larger ring gear. I use the big ring gear on my engine and it just barely fit. (clearance less than .010") You can bolt the flex plate to the TQ converter and wobble it around to see what I mean.
BTW, the 700R4 in stock form will not like the torque of the big block. You should see if the 3-4 section needs updating. If it's stock it may not live long...

My BBC uses an externally balanced crank. I use a 168 tooth flexplate designed for a 350 or 427.
