valvetrain anatomy
I'm having a really hard time figuring out the components of the cylinder head and valve train, what they do and where they go... like the valve guides, valve stem retainers, valve seals, spring retainers, stud bosses, valve pockets, valve locks, valve shims, and spring pockets. I know its a newb question but can someone explain these or point me towads a diagram/tutorial page? Thanks.

Dude, two things;
1. Get a good repair manual for your car's engine with lots of pictures...
2. I think Car Craft magazine does a pretty good job of explaining the operation of engine systems without going "nuclear science" crazy...
You should hit the Car Craft website and look at all of the camshaft and valve train tech articles while you are looking at your pictures in your book...
