inside the top of the gas tank, i believe there is 2 access points, one is removing the rearend and dropping the tank, and the other alot frown on, lift up the carpet and make a access door to the fuel sending unit

Oh i see....i was afraid of it being in the gas tank. well i guess i'll have to drop the rear end, i'd rather not hack my car. oh well!

thanks a lot for your input.

might want to make sure the fuel pump is getting current before you go into dropping the rear, also might also wanna crack the gasline at the engine and prime the pump before you go dropping it!

97 v6 is a 2.8 litter multi port. there should be 2 gas lines going to the engine, probably coming up the driver side rails. loosen them and shoot them into a bucket. turning the ignition to the on position without starting it should prime it for a moment. or try to start the car, that should turn the pump on, "while your cranking" also the wires going to the pump are behind the rear seats inside the car. should be dead center under the carpet behind the seats. or you could just put a fuel pressure gauge on it and turn the car on to prime it. when the key is in the on position you should hear the pump hum

what you need to do is: put your key in the ingnition, dont crank, you should hear it hum (kep your door open) if you hear it hum it works if you dont checkk your connections to tyour fuel pump under the car behing the tank...its a pain dropping the tank

You can also run a jumper wire from your pos. post to the G terminal on your ALDL connector (looking at terminal it's the lower left corner hole) and energize the fuel pump to see if it is running. I've never had one just quit running. Mine have gone bad by not producing enough pressure, even though they still ran. I would check every possible elec. connection before pulling the tank though. Putting a new pump in and it's stll not starting will really peece you off!!
PLEASE, don't get started on the access door topic, it's already been wore out!!!

I warned you not to go there!!! See what you get! Do a search on "access door completed, pics." thread in gen eng forum.
One word of advice? If you want to do a pro job, do it with the tank out of the car and prepare for the next time you might need to access the pump or sending unit instead of trying to short cut a repair job. That makes it a hack job!! OORRRRRR..... (parts car?)

Replacing the fuel pump is not the worst job to do, but is still aggravating,,there is an excellent "how to" on here,,just follow step by step and you'll have her running in about 6 hours or less if you have help.
