wierd noise from engine

Car: 1986 trans am
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700R4?
Axle/Gears: unknown
wierd noise from engine
when i step on the gas hard or taking off sometimes there is a tick/backfire kinda noise comming from the engine i thought maybe it was my throtle body or a miss fire i still need to fine the timming a lil bit but it kinda wierd and getting annoying. Does any one have an idea why this is happening?

sounds like "pinging"...
you may have a "hot spot" on a piston or valve or your timming could be too far advanced...
You could have bad gas...
