valve cover gaskets
I want to replace my valve cover gaskets becuase of a leaking oil problem.
i have a 1986 trans am. v8 5.0 TPI FI. the last year that had the 4 bolts on the side of the covers and not directly from the top down.
my concern is that i want to do it and not pay 60 bucks an hr of labor for someone to do it.
its jsut 4 bolts on each side and my problem is that theres soooo much in the way on the passneger side between distributor cables and other mechanisms that i can even identify
Has anyone attempted this themselves? any tips?

It's not that difficult, just keep note of what you have to remove or disconnect to get at the valve covers.

Re: valve cover gaskets
i exclusively use the rubber valve cover gaskets.you should make sure your cover flanges are straight before you put them on.GM made a valve cover hold down kit that i highly reccomend AND only tighten them to 50 70 inch pounds.good luck
