(High and Low) Idling Problems - 350 TPI

About a month ago my car ran fine, then the MAF sensor went, so I got a new Microtech one. The next few days the idle had some slight problems but I thought it would clear up, and it did for a while, but now its getting worse again.

When I start my car in the morning it turns over right away and will fire up to ~1000rpm then down to about 500ish, stutter and stall.

If I hold the rpms @ ~1000+ for a few seconds, or rev it a few times then let off the gas, the rpms will go anywhere from ~800 to ~600, and slowly decrease until it stutters and stalls again.

Once I start driving for a few minutes and the engine warms up the idle will be normal until it starts to idle high. After driving for about 5 minutes or so the idle will be high (~900rpm in drive not moving, ~1400rpm in neutral or park).

This is very annoying because when I start my car n the morning I cannot get out and let it warm up, I have to sit there on the gas to keep it from stalling. Also, after I drive for a while and I get to a neighborhood or 15mph zone or whatever my engine is idling high and I have to stay on the brake because the trans. is engaged.

So anyway, does anyone have any idea whats going on with this thing?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

btw its a 350 TPI I got about 6 months ago from a friend of my dads. It was rebuilt and had about 15k miles when I got it. Stock except for cams (not sure what kind)

hi.
unplug the maf sensor and see if there is a difference.
mass air flow sensors usualy go uncleaned and unnoticed until they fail.
your original sensor might not have failed, but just been too dirty to function.
I would suggest taking everything apart and giving it a good cleaning (contacts and all).

Thanks.

Ill try unplugging it and try to clean it a little tomorrow morning if I get up early enough.

If not after school Ill tear it all apart and clean everything.

Hope this solves it. I've got a bunch of other problems in the car to tackle.
