Re: top speed of 305

I got my 86 Trans Am LG4 with carb and intake and T5 up to around 155 or so, using the tach and gear calculator. Took a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time to get to 5K rpm in 5th.

My 88 Formula does 140+ on a nice long stretch.
70-130 run with stock motor and auto trans,

Re: top speed of 305

Top speed isn't determined by displacement.

So that could be an LG4, L69, or LB9. 120-140, +/-

Re: top speed of 305

Just because something might go that fast doesn't make it safe to go that fast.

If your going to do a top speed test. Do it in a controled enviorment. Use a helmet and be sure to fully check out your car first. Look at the brakes, suspension, u-joints as well as the condition of the tires.

Maybe even have a role bar or cage.

IIRC, GM literature says 138 for the L69.

Re: top speed of 305

My L03 91's top speed is 115 (w/ "superchip"). I have a 3.23 rear end and a T5, Mine runs ~3100 or so RPM at the limiter. So there's plenty of gear left, but it's a L03, it runs out of nuts about 110. I hate to assume, but the car in question should have the same axle ratio. Auto or Manual should have different overdrive ratios, so I'm not sure what Rpm's you'll be spinning @ what speeds.
And I agree on the safety factor. Go for it, but don't be stupid about it.
Depending on your O/D gear should be ~140ish
