I turned my car on today. never stays running on first try. starts, idle stumbles then dies. Second try usually works and idle stabilizes and runs better once warmed up.
but this time first try car died as usual. but the second.... no start just click click click sound.. what is it? My starter? or ignition module?
I took the key out waited a few seconds and tried again and car started right up.
Any ideas guys?

Click-click-click - I suspect the starter/solenoid, but run then die can't be starter related.
Run then die, then start up and run okay makes me suspect fuel.

ok starter just making sure. fuel pump is ok and fuel filter is getting replaced tomorrow but usually on second ry car stays running and runs pretty well on the road.
i believe its my cold start valve. just starting cold on the first try has always been an issue. do you guys agree most likely cold start valve? if not 9th injector? i put a lot of nasty lethal fuel injector cleaner in the gas. it took away my lean code 44 and is running better so that makes me point at the cold start valve and not the injector unless its beyond clogged

You may be on to something. The only time I received a lean condition code on my 415 CID L98 was when the 02 sensor died. I used Diacom to detect it and after changing the 02 sensor, all was well.Originally Posted by Bobby_80s

Right. Have the 400 block bored .030 and the crank off-set ground and there you are.Originally Posted by SpitotRs305

But it can be battery or alternator related. If the battery isn't at full song it can start and die because there isn't enough power left to maintain the puter, fuel pump and ign sys. Once the battery gets a load on it, it is possible for it to recover enough to partially function. Ever hear about turning on the lights for a weak battery to start in the winter?Originally Posted by JakeJr

May not be your issue, but verify the basics.

once the car started a dead battery would not cause it to stall... ever heard of jumpstarting
