Read the write-up on smog pump delete

Hi. I read the excellent article on rerouting for taking off the smog pump. Very helpful! Anyway, should i unplug the smog system from the computer? Thanks

The diverter valve solenoids are controlled by the ECM on late model TPI engines.

Okay. But the computer needs no information from the pump. Doing nothing to the prom won't hurt anything. No codes will be set.

Code 32 will appear after cruising if you remove the EGR selenoid. I drove around for a few months with the smog pump bypassed (still on the car) by re-routing the belts with no codes before removing it completely. If you remove the EGR, you can expect higher chamber temps. I have a 730 ECM if that makes a difference.

Supervisor, are you talking about the EGR valve, or the pump valve?

im doing my valve cover gaskets today and i want the smog pump and crap gone, out of my way, its an eye sore anyway. i dont have a serp belt, so it hasnt even been hooked up for a long time. on my 84 what all can i get away with removing, and what needs to be plugged up. i searched and found nothing helpfull pertaining to my car... i know look harder, asking is sometimes better than endless seaches

Removing the air divert valve and or smog pump will not set any codes. To the OP, the smog pump delete article is great but if you still have AC you will get a nasty belt vibration that can be felt through out the car when the AC is on and its hard on all the belt driven components. I ended up going back to the original belt and buying the smog delete pulley.

i want that gone too it doesnt hold, it has a leak, also noticed my map sensor has no vacum line to it!!!lol ! wheres the line that goes to the map come from? i cant find it anywhere!
so i would like to remove the smog and ac pump today, what belt do i need to run the power steering pump only??mine is set up weird the ac belt goes on the ps and theres a second belt to the ps thats actually missing . the write up i have read are all for serp systems. i dont mind leaving the smog pump to avoid the leak thing, but i want the a/c gone and have no clue what belt size will work to run my power stearing. theres so much crap on this car just to get to the valve covers its just sickening
