Ideas and Opinions
Heres the situation I've got an LG4 that has about 20k on the rebuild. Engine runs flawlessly never a problem runs strong for what it is. But I'd like more so here's my dilema everyone says go to a 350 for ease of parts and hp gains etc.But when i look around and analyze its too expensive. example local 350 engine with heads 700 or now factor in i dont know what's inside and i'll need to send it to machine shop to prep it maybe need new pistons heads maybe i can port them maybe they're not worth it. Mow if i take my engine and get a stroker kit from enginekits.com for about the same 700 bucks i can get the rotation assembly internal balance with flywheel and harmonic balancer i can install it my self and simply port the head and install larger valves and plug in the cam and stuff i wanted and i've saved money and be way up on power What do you guys think? Please be gentle not much in budget for frivolous things

For the money that you will put into a stroker 305 a 350 with the same amount of money will kill it bottom line. There's no replacement for displacement.

335ci If I remeber correctly. And thats alot of money in labor for a machine shop just to make a stroker out of a 305.

If it were me and I had a limited budget and wanted to keep the 305 that I had 20,000miles on a rebuild I would do a couple of things. I would opt for a full performance exhaust if you dont have one already and better cam and heads.

ok well i've already got headers and exhaust all the way back i'm currently putting down 175 to the wheels I'd just like to get more umph out of it the stroker kit is for 335 and will cost about 700 as mentioned with balancer and internal balace. I can do the work myself of installing it . As far as keeping it a 305 i guess i could go with a comp 268 cam and get the k-kit available for it so as to get the springs etc. for the upgraded cam as far as heads it's kinda hard to go junkyard diving as i am a tech at a f___ dealership and usually work 6 days a week. I dont know what castings i've got for the heads and at 8.5:1 it would be nice to get it up to 9.5 or so like an l69. Thanks for the sugestions so far keep them coming the more info the better

I was able to track down an engine/machine shop we used to use at work and the guy is offering my a 350 bored .030 over 4 bolt mains with heads cam and all gaskets and flattop pistons with warranty for 1100 with no core. I'm in the process of having him get me the casting numbers off the head to see if he'll let me get comp cams suggest or custom grind a cam to match the setup i plan to use
