World heads work with 86 TPI intake?
Do the world s/r heads bolt right up to an 86 TPI intake?? Or will there be some modding that has to be done? It's an 86 305 TPI intake.
IIRC, the 86 still had the old style heads, and the 87 up manifolds required the centerbolt style heads.
Not to sure on what style the worlds are.

The Worlds are '86-earlier unless you get the ones for '87-up.
I wouldn't bother with S/R's, S/R Torquers are a step up.

Re: World heads work with 86 TPI intake?
So my 86 tpi will work with ANY 86-pre heads?
I'm going with the S/R's because I'm building a mild daily driven car. And I want to stick with the smaller 1.94 1.5 valves.
Arn't the S/R's the same as the S/R Torquers? cept they flow less because of the smaller valves? Atleast that's what my impression is. I'm not looking for 1/4 miles times or peak horsepower capability, just a decent street rodder.

S/R 305 Torquers have 1.94/150 valves. I don't know anything about a different S/R head.

I guess they've stopped calling the 305 heads "S/R Torquer", and just refer to them as "S/R" now. http://www.worldcastings.com/catalog.../sbc_heads.pdf revised 2/07
They are available in both '86-earlier (042650-1) and '87-later (042750-1) style in the 305 type.
If you're talking about a 305, just go with the 042650-1's.
Just curious, why are you thinking about replacing the heads?

Re: World heads work with 86 TPI intake?
Oh sorry, I forgot to mention it's for a mild 350 build up. I was thinkin about the 43610-1 which says it will work with an 1986 engine, but I was unsure if it would work with the 86 TPI.
I wanted the S/R's over the Torquers because of the smaller valve size, and I won't be reving over 4000 rpms. They also have decent flow numbers. I would just go with some L98's remanufactured, but the heads are 150 for a pair, and local machine shop charges 385 for the pair to get redone. For that price, I think it makes sense just to go with an aftermarket head, such as the worlds plus i'm not really looking for 1/4 mile times.
The worlds are the only one that I can find with a small runner size, only 170cc which if i'm thinkin correctly is best for low end torque (TPI). And the 170cc peak at 5000rpm or so. Stockers have around 164 or so?
If you know of any heads that would be better for the price of the Worlds, you can sure let me know.
I don't want to go with vortecs though, for the extra cost of the manifold and more tuning needed. Keeping it simple.
Thanks!

The part number you have listed 43610-1 looks like the correct head for a pre-1987 350. Still I don't know why you would want the smaller 1.94/1.5 valves when you could get the 2.02/1.60 valves with p/n 42660-1
I'd bet that the price is the same.

Re: World heads work with 86 TPI intake?
They are the exact same price. But I read an article on this site >> https://www.thirdgen.org/mods2 that says that the larger valve size acts like larger runner size, and are used for high reving motors.
I'm not going to be revving really high, and I would like to keep the low-end torque and power. And I believe that by staying with the smaller valves I will achieve this.
The larger valves if i'm thinking right would take away from my low-end power and shift it a little higher. Defeating my purpose of this engine?
I'm not sure if that's what is meant by all of this...? Correct me if i'm wrong. I'm pretty green when it come to this.

What heads do I have laying around???
None at the moment, i'm currently using the 081's or 416's that are on my 305 TPI which is still running in the car, driving it every day as we speak. But they will be laying around in a few weeks, as soon as I get my motor back from the machine shop, and I figure out which heads i'm going to bolt on. Hmmm...not to sure, which ones did come on the 86 305 TPI, the 081's or the 416's?? Just wondering, cuz I came across a flow sheet on the 416's with bigger valves and they flow about the same Worlds.....and i'd be getting different pistons, to match the chambers on the heads to get the compression I want....now i'm really curious.

Re: World heads work with 86 TPI intake?
081's have centerbolt valve covers. 416's use the older perimeter covers. Which do you have. In my opinion you can build a better head for your 350 using either one of these castings as a start.
Home port them yourself and install new 1.94x 1.50 or 1.60" valves, drill and pin the rocker studs add new stock diameter performance springs and you'll make more power for less $$$ than a S/R head. The S/R 305 heads do not flow near as advertized by World. Measured chamber volume is not 58cc either. The only thing they have going for them is the fact that they are new and the casting quality is better than a GM head.
i have a set of the 416's all done, ready to rock on the budget 350 I'm building. Flow 232cfm@28". Chamber volume is 61cc. All finished for under $500 tax included . You can do it too.
No they are not for sale

Do you know if the 601's are about the same as the 416's?? I actually have a completely machined set of 601's with screw in studs, all ready to go, all i'd have to do is put in the bigger valves, I believe that they've been ported....hmmmm Would I get the same results with the 601's??
