Questions about replacing valve seals
I'm replacing my valvetrain with a Comp Cams kit and I have a couple of questions. First off I've tore it down to fix my disappearing oil problem:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...rough-pcv.html
I think I narrowed it down to an intake gasket leak (I'm going to install the new one with RTV around the intake ports), and/or leaky valve seals. Is there anyway to tell if the valve seal is bad by looking at it? After removing the #6 springs I've noticed a coating of oil on the valve stem after pushing it down and back up.
I'm following Aperion's instructions found here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...ive+valve+seal
I'm trying to remove the old seals, and they seem stubborn to come off. I've had to use a screwdriver to get'm off, but it leaves a bunch of crud behind. Whats the best way to remove them? I bought the new Felpro Positive seals, but I can't figure out where the o-ring goes or if I even need it. Aperion's valve stem has two grooves, mine has only one.
Also not sure if its a problem but when I spun the intake valve in its seat by hand, I can hear and feel a little bit of friction. The exhaust valve is smooth when spun. Is this good/bad/doesn't matter?

For as cheap as valve seals are, don't worry about trying to figure out if they're still good or not, just replace them. Use a pair of pliers to grab them and twist them back and forth as you pull them off.

I went out and got some brass wire brushes to clean up anything loose. As for the actual seals I bought the part you recommended in that thread, but it doesn't fit. The boss is too wide for the seal. Guess I'll have to go back to the auto part store tomorrow to try to find the right ones.

Re: Questions about replacing valve seals
Ok I'm an idiot. I mistook the metal shell underneath as a part of the head, and was wondering why nothing would work for me.
After realizing that, replacement was a cinch.
