engine stalls when shift to reverse unless givning gas??????

Car: 1987 Camaro, 1986 Trans AM
Engine: V6 2.8 multi-port and V8 5.0 FI
Transmission: 5-Speed and Automatic
Axle/Gears: no idea
engine stalls when shift to reverse unless givning gas??????
my car recently came up with a new problem. when i shift into reverse it stalls unless i give it gas then its fine.
any ideas?
it does has a running lean error so not enough gas to keep in that gear?
