Cast Cranks??

Considering the cost of a reconditioned stock 350 crank- one piece rear main seal, whats out there that you like in a stock stroke- Scat $160, Eagle $180. Perhaps a step up from stock- even the GM crank would hold 350hp no prob.

Re: Cast Cranks??

I dunno about the 350 but I know about the research I did on a 400 crank.

You dont look at strength so much as RPM potential (unless your using nitrous or a power adder). And what I came up with is a stock 400 crank can hold 6,500 RPM but should only go to 6,200. I believe the 350 crank has more potential due to the shorter stroke.

But trust me dude I am so horrably sorry I didnt just buy a cast steel crank for $200. They are worth it! Because, especially on a stroker everything is all balanced so if you ever want more out of your engine you will have to tear it all apart just because you wanted to save a little dough. And if you do dont do SCAT I know alot of guys who have lost engines to sub par parts from them. Go eagle. Oh and a cast steel eagle crank should be good to 7,000 assuming a good balance job IMO.

But like I was sayin, if its a super mild build that will never break 6,500 and will seldom see NOS you should be okay.

Re: Cast Cranks??

eagle cast cranks are way stronger than stock cast cranks...the internals of our 3rd gen cars are cast pistons and crank that is reportedly rated to 300hp...but u can go 350hp with them if the engine is ok, personally i wouldnt. eagle cast cranks are basically the same as scat and are good for 500hp and a max of 6500rpms. i wouldnt spin the cast crank any higher unless the power was lower and u had a 4bolt main/splayed caps. our stock 2bolt blocks shouldnt be spun above 6000rpms ever... its considered the limitations. if money is tight and u cant go for a forged crank and u will be below 500hp and dont plan on spinning the engine above 6000rpms the eagle cast crank and 2bolt mains will be adequate. but ur pistons will be the biggest prob...hyperconetic will be fine if u dont hit it with the squeeze alot and no supercharger, otherwise forged pistons are always better. eagle is better for my 500hp 383 im goin eagle cast crank, hyperconetic speed pro pistons and eagle rods...bc im not a big fan of the squeeze and with a supercharger i'll be seeing 700hp easy and id prob kill myself, just match the parts accordingly and think about future upgrades

Re: Cast Cranks??

This TPI is destined for a 1989 4x4 auto so max rev will be 6000rpm. Going with RHS Vortec 2.02/1.6 iron heads, Edelbrock base and runners , Mahle/ Wesco/ Diamond forged pistons,4 bolt main- ARP studded, blueprinted, probably overbuilt but what the hell- my machinist is very good at talking me out of spending money- but these cranks are so cheap, I don't see a need for forged. Also interested in a model that is 'gun drilled' which I assume is a way of lightening the crank. Whats the deal with Scat- I do have a set of Scat 5.7 rods earmarked for the build, is there a problem with their quality?? The heads are taking their own sweet time coming over from Australia- know anyone using the Patriot Freedom series 185 heads?

Re: Cast Cranks??

i heard the heads where a good peice im thinking of running them on my future 383 since they are 800$ fully assembeled but i dont think they are larger enought for the air of my 383 to feed 500hp. ive heard nothing but good things bout the heads. about scat...i have no idea i thought they where ok... but i would go with eagle just as my preferance
