can these lifters/valves be adjusted
Hello,
I have a z28, 305 H.O. engine, just recently it sounds like one of the lifters is tapping, the car only has 72k miles, I do not hot rod it, really runs good. My mechanic suggested I put in a oil stabilizer, which I did, it quieted it some, but here is my question....can this be adjusted under the valve cover? I am assuming it is a hydraulic lifter making the noise, and I do not want to put wear on camshaft...is this hard, it seems like it could be done easily???? appreciate any suggestions, thanks

Re: can these lifters/valves be adjusted
All small block Chevys came with adjustable rocker arms- so, yes, you can adjust it. It's a simple matter of turning the big nut in the center of the rocker arm. However, they RARELY go out of adjustment. Usually if something starts tapping it's because a part is on it's way out somewhere- lifter collapsing, rocker stud pulling out, broken valve spring, bent pushrod or badly worn valve guide are the usual culprits that spring immediately to mind.
