help redoing top end
I am thinking redoing the top end of my motor. I am looking at getting a trick flow kit. I am somewhat unsure which kit would work with what I have and what type of cam I need. This car is weekend, street/strip car. The things that I do know about this engine from the castings. It is a 350 from 1970 out of a caprice/belair. According to the castings it was 300hp. It is a 4 bolt main.
3970010 on block
k0919cnr front of block
3973487 heads
The engine has about 10,000 from last rebuild, I am not sure what parts were used in that rebuild. I can only assume it was a stock rebuild. The engine runs strong but I am looking to get some more power from it. This is a non emissions car, everything is gone. It has headers , edelbrock intake, edelbrock 650 carb, t-10 4 speed. I have been dredging through old threads, and from what I can tell the heads are killing this engine. I am not certain what type of cam I would need ie: flat tappet etc. , and if my compression is high enough for the trick flow heads with a modest cam? If someone help me out with a few suggestions, that would be great.

Ah, the venerable 300 horse 350 - loved that engine, took my very first driver's test in a '69 Impala with one.
But, I digress. . .
What you put in/on it really depends upon what you intend to get out of it. But, that also may be limited by what you are or are not willing to do with the rest of the engine.
If a "stock" rebuild, it should have 4-valve relief flat top pistons. The odds of that are pretty slim, though - most likely has dished pistons in it, as they are the typical budget rebuild pieces. But either way, probably still cast pistons. And stock rods, which isn't too big of a deal; but the stock rod bolts are, and will limit the RPMs you can spin the motor to without grenading it, which of course isn't a good feeling. So, why not just bite the bullet and do a full engine rebuild? Good pistons, matched to the heads for the CR you want, good rods or at least reconditioned with ARP bolts rods - then you'll know what you've got.
Since this is a strip-primary car, consider at least a partial fill of Hard Blok. Those blocks aren't particularly famous for strength.
The block was made for flat tappet lifters, and retrofit lifters are required. Looking at the 500 HP kit on summitracing.com, it's a roller cam, but the lifters aren't included - add retrofit lifters to the price (another $600). The heads are 72cc chambers, which will require domed pistons to get decent CR (all the more reason to go with a full rebuild).
Lose the Performer carb - with that much engine and a T10, mechanical secondary Holley or Demon in the 750 CFM range is the only way to go.
All that said, you could argue that a "kit" you put together yourself with AFR or some other aftermarket heads would do better $'s/HP.
