engine noise at higher rpms

Hello everyone. Starting to feel more at home here. I have another small issue with my 89 formula 350. I have a fast pinging noise coming from my engine at higher rpm. I noticed that it happens when my car shifts into second gear when the car is floored. It continues on up and keeps doing it until I let off the gas. I do have a freshly burned chip (pcmsforless) and thought that it maybe to aggresive. I only use premium gas and the car performs very well off the line and shredds tires with no problem. The trans. is fresh with a shift kit and corvette servos and shifts hard into second. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to get to the track for some times but don't want this to hurt me. Next step is nitrous!!!!

Re: engine noise at higher rpms

If it is generating spark knock, the timing can be retarded to compensate. I'm presuming you still have the stock MEMCAL, so you can plug that in to see if the problem is related to the tune.
