to much oil pressure?!?!?!?!?

hello everyone, i'm running a 400sbc in my 87 formula, i just recently got the motor running and i'm having a few problems, the motor has stock pistons new stock bearings, rings, reman crank, a melling high volume oil pump, a relatively mild cam, accel dissy, stock heads, and aftermarket intake with 600cfm holley carb.

I had the motor in another car but had to scrap the car and put motor into this car with less than 5 miles on it, now when i start the car i'm running over 80 psi at idle(stock 80psi gauge topped out) and i can see the needle trying to move when i rev it. i've been experiencing many small oil leaks that i've been able to fix but the last two are doosies, i'm leaking out of where the dipstick seats into the block(driver side, 72 block) and i think i've blown out the rear main seal (2 piece). I'm just wondering what the hell is going on with my oil pressure and if i change the rear seal will having this much pressure just keep blowing it out? any suggestions would be great as i'm losing my will to live because of this car. thanks

Oil blowing out the dipstick tube is because of high crankcase pressure, oil pressure won't have anything to do with it. If the rear main seal is leaking, then it's most likely installed wrong.

Crank case pressure can push seals and gaskets. does it have a functioning PCV system?

Aside from the oil pressure issue, what kinda pan do you have on the car. My brother sucked a pan dry on a 305 with a Melling high volume pump and a factory pan and cooked the bottom end. Or at least thats the conclusion we came to. Personally I'll never run a high volume pump unless I'm building a turbo car and I have a 7+ quart pan. If I were you I would either go to an OE style pump or put an aftermarket pan on the car while i have the motor apart again.

Re: to much oil pressure?!?!?!?!?

I used a high volume oil pump on a 406 I built but I removed the oil pressure relief valve and drilled the oil relief hole larger so the pump would be able to return the bypassed oil to the oil pan much quicker. Your oil pressure relief valve may be stuck??
