Having Oil issues

I have a 383 stroker in my car, Basically my problem is when I hammer on the throttle oil blows out the dipstick. Yes i know common problem, but all the solutions ive found I already have. My car is carbed I have a pcv vavle on one valve cover a breather on the other. Now I dont have baffles on yet so i do have a slow drip coming from the breather. Would this affect the system that much? I really want to say my problem is in my crankcase vent system becuase i have a few random oil leaks. I thank you for any help.

I would think your problem is ring blow-by.

Re: Having Oil issues

Not having a baffle under the breather is why oil is showing up on the topside of the valve cover.

If you don't have baffles to mount inside the covers, most of the autoparts stores, like Advance and Pep Boys, have rubber grommets with a thin slice in them to allow the pressure to escape but NOT the oil. They push right into the holes in the covers.

I've never been a fan of using BOTH a PCV and a breather(s) on the same engine at the same time. One or the other.

It's crankcase pressure that's pushing out the dip stick. You've got to find a way to lessen the pressure. I've seen pics of some engines with as many as four breathers to address that problem. At low vacuum conditions, like at WOT, the PCV becomes ineffective because it relies on vacuum to keep the check ball off it's seat. With no vacuum, the ball drops and closes off any venting.

I just bought a set of ProFrom covers for the 388 LT1 I built (need taller ones to clear my 1.7 RR poly locks) and those covers came with one baffle in each cover and two holes in each cover too.

If I begin to have the same problem as you are experiencing, I plan to dump the PCV entirely and go with four push-in breathers - two on each cover.

Hope this helps.

Jake

That I don't understand, because without a breather, the crankcase won't vent. Without a valve, the venting isn't positive.
