help car making terrible noise

well my 91 z28 350 tpi has been sitting for a year but started regularly, the alternator went out so i replaced it took it down the road got on it pretty hard, and it took a while to shift but when it did it shifted hard and is now making a loud clanking noise, i thought i spun a bearing or rod, but my dad thinks it isnt, i drained the oil no metal shavings or anything. then i thought it could be the flywheel or torque converter but all that looks good, i cant really pinpoint where its coming from, it idels smooth but doesnt have the power it use to any suggestions. thanks please help

Is a fast noise or a slow noise, more of a knock or more of a tap?

Hows your oil pressure?

Can you pinpoint exactly where its coming from? Id pull the valve covers and have a look even if your not sure, broken, loose, bent stuff you should be able to tell. Visually inspect first then id start the car and watch the valves move.

yeah just take the valve covers off,u may have a broken valve that is slapping the out hell out of the piston.but im going to break it to u its probably a rod bearing.

also my car is making a hell of a noise to took the valve cover off everything was good.crank the car up have very good oil psi 56lb.so now im going to take the oil pan off and replace the bearings.if the crank isnt bad..

Its never that easy. If you spun a bearing then the crank probly has to be turned and the rod reworked.

Dan, it could still be your flywheel. When they crack they will make ALOT of noise. They usuraly crack around the crank bolts.
