THANKYOU ALL!!.Im ready, when Can I go FULL THROTTLE?
First I want to say THANKS!!!..to everyone that has helped me with ALL my problems and stupid questions..oh and Im sure there will be more! I couldnt have done it without you guys!!!...THANKS!!!!!!!!
Its been along time coming!!..1.6 years......Ok after all my problems...I pretty sure Ive got all of them figured out. I just need to get the motor dyno tuned and thats pretty much it.
The new motor has 460 miles on it....and has had about 5 oil changes...dont ask!>..LOL
Ive got about 200 miles on the current oil right now. When can I start getting into it FULL THROTTLE and carrying it past 6000 just to see whats its got?
I'll tell you what..the wide open Borla is INSANLY LOUD!!!..like get beside a cop at a light and attempt to leave like normal and get a ticket LOUD!!!!...THis motors revs like a bitch!!!...with my underdrives and small 6.4 ATI balancer..I can give the pedal a good tap and hit 5000 no problem.......traction is gonna be hard to get....I can smoke the tires from a 40 roll...not even going full throttle...I wanna go all the way..will it hurt so soon?

I would not do it just yet. I know a lot of people who said just what you said, low and behold they where back at the shop tearing it down and sending it back to the machine shop again. Even racecars have hours of irun time on their motors for break in. It is really to soon drive it easy (not blowing the tires off of it) but drive it everywhere you go before you know it you will have a 1000-2000 miles on the new motor, then drop the hammer.

That 3400 stall is a little tall for the street, ain't it? We'd like to see it in action

Re: Im ready, when Can I go FULL THROTTLE?
hell I had a 3000 stall with my 305..so 400 more on a 383 should be ok
I was told by many that 3400 is not tall at all for the street...it somewhat acts normal just have to give it a small tad more gas to go..not that noticable though....but when you plant the foot...thats when it flashes...
Like I said I havent been all the way so I cant say exactly what it act like..but I like it..

Roller cam?
Synthetic oil in it now?
You've done engine braking and whatnot to seat the rings?
I'd go for it, that's enough time for everything to wear together. Sounds like you've done some mid throttle driving, redline should be ok now.

yeah roller cam...
no, synthetic is not in there now...just straight Valvoline 30wt
I suppose ive done engine breakin...hell its got 460 miles on it and Ive drove it to get my exhaust done which was 110 miles each way.
SO you think I should be ok?

I think by engine braking Sonix was referring to letting the engine slow down the car. Put the car in 3rd gear (not at very high speeds though) and you will hear the engine sound change and it will be the engine that is slowing down the car and not the brakes.

Yep, engine braking. It helps seat the rings, just as well as mid throttle blasts.
If you think you've seated the rings right, go nuts. And yea, video tape of that, we're always game for some nice burnout footage.

Re: Im ready, when Can I go FULL THROTTLE?
well I guess its to late for that now seeing the motor already has so many miles put on it..but no I didnt do what your talking about.....I drove it 100 miles today....and other than blowing fuses which I have to fix the car did ok...I stll didnt go full throttle..kinda scared to!...LOL.....the car did cut off on me once at a redlight ...I have surging problems...gotta figure that out...
yesterday when my fans didnt work the motor got real hot but Ive since fixed that.....but the temp gauge is pegged out so I dont know what the temp is...Ive tried thumpin it to make it pop down but go go....
My oil pressure gauge was working fine and holding about 30 when idleing and would go up to about 65-70 when I gave it alot of gas...but on the way home i noticed it was all the way past 80 and would go futher than that...what gives? whats causing that?..would it be my oil? should I run thinner oil? can I switch to SYN now?
other than that it seems fine....but the gauges bug the crap outta me..I like to know whats going on and always look at them..but now their going bonkers

I usually wait at least until I'm out of my driveway before I first go to WOT.

It's time to drive it hard. You waited much longer than I ever have. As long as it was built right you should be fine.
If I were you I would dump the 30W and start going thinner. My personal preference is to hit say a 15W then 10 then 5. I'm at 15W now on my build after only 50 miles. Haven't been able to hit the go fast pedal too hard though. I'm running lean. Waiting on my new injectors.

I just get whatever 15W is on the shelf. 15-30 15-40
Doesn't really matter.
15W is thinner than 30W.

Re: Im ready, when Can I go FULL THROTTLE?
i've read alot of guys just give it some time idling to break in the motor on first initial startup (sometimes they heat cycle it by running it then shutting it off, then running again), then change oil, and finally take it driving where they will do a few short 75% throttle blasts or so. Then the rings should be set and your good to go WOT!
