I have 1 week to fix my car or it's gone...help?
Ok, I have way to many cars, and this one has to be sold off or taken to the junkyard if I cant get it fully driveable really soon...
-1987 Firebird
-80-84 Oldsmobile 307 swapped in
Car idles fine, and when in park it will rev to high rpms just fine...
however, when driving it studdeders really bad and will even stall at high rpms...
if I manually shift the auto and allow it to rev really slowly it revs better, but will completely stall out if I give it gas too quickly...
I'm thinking it's running waaay to rich? Any ideas?
Note: the computer is gone on the car, did not swap the original 307 comp and it is running without it, emissions are also gone

I hooked it up to the front of the carb, the vacuum port directly next to the pcv port on the drivers side...
Do you know what would help me out a ton? A vacuum diagram for this engine, 80-84 olds 307...
But other than that, could a vacuum error be the cause of misfiring at high rpm, but yet the engine runs just fine at idle and in park...
I'm so confused to why it runs fine sometimes at the same rpms, and some timres shitty at the same rpms...

are you using the computer controlled carb? If so i would buy this carb, or an aftermarket carb, like a holley or edelbrock (maybe not the edelbrock).

well no more money is going into this car...
It's for sale, and I feel like there is nothing I can do without buying parts for it...
I've already far exceeded my expectations with the car, and will either try and sell it, or put it back in the woods for later in life lol

Don't be discouraged, most guys here said you couldn't get the oldsmobile in there. you did great to get the motor in the car and running. a little time and tuning will go along way. and i've had several setbacks and problems with my car, but i see it as a learning oppurtunity.

I didn't do the swap...I bought it like that, but it was a mess, a complete mess...
I am proud I got a custom setup to run, if anyone has any last ditch ideas to try and tune this thing with the parts i have, let me know, but I cant afford to even buy a cheap carb...or anything really...
I may push this bird out in a field and let it sit, maybe hang on to it and search for a olds 455 and start from scratch...idk

Re: I have 1 week to fix my car or it's gone...help?
no problem
it doesn't show dist vacuum advance because they didn't use vacuum advance then, it was handled by the ECM.
set the base timing to around 12, then hook the vacuum line up to full time intake vacuum & you should be ok.

well if they did not use vacuum advance 80-84 i wonder why it has a vacuum advanced distributor? hmmm
Anyways, there may be a bit of hope for this car, me and my buddy might make it into a 455 bbk race car...

who ever did the swap probably put in a vacuum advance type distributor when they did the swap.
otherwise without the computer, it would have had no power.
