Car wont start or crank when hot - PLEASE HELP!!!!
Car wont start or crank when hot - PLEASE HELP!!!!
I'm at the end of my rope with a horribly aggravating problem. I bought my car back in February (a 1987 Iroc, 5.7 TPI), and it ran fine for the remainder of winter and spring. Then, at the beginning of the summer, the car left me stranded twice. I would drive the car to my destination, and then when I would go to start the car again, it wouldn't do anything. Not even crank (the lights, buzzer, etc. do come on). This happened to me twice. On both occasions, I left the car, went back to try it again at night, and it started right up both times (after the car had cooled down). I just drove home for lunch a few minutes ago, and I thought I would switch vehicles and drive the Iroc back to work. No such luck, as the car wouldn't crank at all. This is the first time the car has done this when it has been sitting for several days. This is about the hottest day of the year so far here, and my car is parked in the direct sunlight. Something is causing my car not to start when hot, and I can't figure out what it is. Someone please help me before I start throwing money it at. I have considered the usual suspects, battery cables, battery, starter, soleinoid, etc. The battery has charge, and I know first hand that jumping it doesn't help, so I don't think that's the problem. Is there a temp. sensor somewhere that's causing my problems?

There are two tools you have to carry with you when owning/driving a chevy
A big flat blade screw drive (to cross the starter solenoid) and a hammer. (to wack the body of the starter if the bendix sticks.
