The only things you can really do for "free horsepower" is take your intake filter off, or uncap your headers, neither of which is a very good idea. Expect to spend some money. Exhaust kit, intake manifold, better carb are all places to start looking.

He didn't say free horsepower, he said "faster for free"...Weight reduction is your friend. Spare wheel, back seats, anything you can live without.
In my opinion, there's no such thing as free horsepower. If it's not money spent on new parts, it's money spent on replacement parts when you cut corners like taking the air filter off, and have to buy a new engine.
Unless you live in a junk yard or know a catburglar.

I clicked on this thread just to say the only way to get free HP is to make the car lighter. You still have the same HP but with less weight to move, the car will be faster.
The gimmick things that claim HP increases are never what they claim. The best you can do is reduce the things that eat up HP so more gets to the wheels. The only way to truly make the car faster is to spend money to make real HP.

Not really cheap, but I think a converter(2500-3000) would make the biggest SOTP difference.
