What do you guys set timing at ?
I have a 1986 iroc z with a 305 and a factory carb, it is also a factory 5 spd. I was wondering what is a good timing set? It seems to run a little hot around 220 in traffic with the a/c off? and even when it is running around 180-190 and i turn the car off it diesls alittle bit ?
Thanks for any help

6 degrees seems to be a good number. If its dieseling on shutoff then you've got a lot of carbon in the combustion chambers.

hey thanks for the help im gonna do alittle tunning with the timing to see how it acts. Also this car is bone stock. Whats the best way of getting rid of all the emissions and smog stuff? Does the computer get pissed about this?

The best way is to leave it there. Removing, disabling, tampering, or otherwise modifying your stock emissions equipment is a violation of FEDERAL laws, regardless of your state or local emissions testing requirements. It doesnt hurt anything having it there, other than a cluttered engine bay. But leaving it there certainly helps keep the air clean and promotes responsible hot-rodding.
