Melonized Dist Gear is .491, my dist is .427
My distributor is from a 1990 suburban (small cap), but the shaft is a .427 and this melonized gear is for the .491 shaft. I have some ZZ4 roller camshaft, and my extensive searching concludes that I must use the melonized gear. I want to keep the computer controlled ignition (as I burn my own chips) used with this dist, does anybody have any suggestions to help me?
I am contemplating having a bushing made so I can use the gear, 31/64" O.D. 1/32" wall...

Any factory roller compatible dist gear should work, as long as it's for the right diameter.
Look up the gear for a 96 truck, or a 92 Z28, and see what the ID is.

Check the gear that came off the smallcap dizzy you have.. It should have a bushing in it that you can press out and reuse in the .491 gear.

I know your pain. I end up ditching small diameter hat dizzy and got a full size HEI with 7 pin ignition module. Full size dizzy has a 0.491 diameter shaft and a melonized gear 10456413 from GM can be used. I have not found equivalent for 0.429 small hat dizzy. BTW, large hat dizzy can be retrofitted in place of small hat provided that you have enough working room in that area. On J-yard look for is 81-86 gm 7 pin HEI from CCC cars or trucks with no vacuum can advance. When grabbing such unit make sure to get a portion of harness (i.e mated connector pair) - a very minor harness mod (change of the connector type) is required. If you need more info - I did such swap and works just fine.
