Re: horsepower estimate please.
Did you race these folks on the street or at the track? I assume the street because you posted no times.
Your original question was how much power do you have.
I will tell you a good way to estimate it.
Go measure off 1/4 mile on a flat road and run if from a standing start. Wright down your mph.
Go to one of the sites on the internet and put in you mph and your cars weight. I estoimate it weights about 3500 without a driver.
That will give you your rear wheel horsepower.
If you shift that car closer to 4500 rpms it will run quicker times. Like the folks said a tpi will not make power beyond 4500. I have had one for 17 years, bracket raced it, road raced it etc and so on. I have turned it to 7000 by missing a shift or hitting water on the track. But it was not making any more power at 7000. Car ran a best of 9.17 in the 1/8 shifting at 4200. Car would run 10.00 shifting at 6000.
Does the car through you back in the seat when you shift? If so you waited too long to shift. You have stopped accelerating. The gear change puts you engine back into the torque cure and it starts acceleraing again.

Aluminum Vette heads have 58cc chambers vs. 64 cc for iron heads. You could have them shaved to about 50-52cc to get the same effect as having 58cc iron heads on a 305. But, then you'd have to use dished pistons if you ever wanted to put the heads on a 350 (not such a bad thing).

yeah i rebuilt my lb9 lastyear with the mods in my signature and aint had a chance to get it on a dyno yet ,so i was wanting some horsepower estimates and if any body has an lb9 that they had on a dyno, what was your hp/ftlbs? and with what mods?(ive beat an 89 iroc and 87 ta in 1/4 mile(both bone stock lb9s),both by 10-14 car legths)anyway any estimates would b appreciated, thanx in advance
from the mods i wouldnt think your too much over 210whp

really, i was always under the impression that 10 lengths was at very most 2 seconds, if nto closer to a second and a half, i've spent so little time at the track in my young life tho what do i know
Re: horsepower estimate please.
,no, how long is ten cars exactly?,actually i couldnt really tell ya how far they was behind exactly, so far behind me i couldnt barely see their headlights anymore(far enough) ,is that a better way to put it ?,i was way ahead of them every time call it what you want.

this post is for all the people that say my car is only pushing 190-220hp tops, if my car is only pushing 190-220hp tops then please explain to me why i beat 2 cars, same engine, with 215 and 230hp stock. both cars multiple times!by multiple car lengths, if my car is only pushing 190-220hp tops, i shouldn't be able to beat these cars by that much if at all in any race , i wouldnt think so anyway. any explanations would be appreciated.

Re: horsepower estimate please.
Is there any possibility that GM changed the swirl port castings? I only ask this because a girl I know has a 1995 Z71 full size Chevy truck and it will absolutly put to shame other full size Chevy's I've driven with the 350TBI engine (there's been a ton of them, I used to move every year and have to borrow different trucks). There's also the possibility that she has a nice set of heads under her TBI intake, she did buy the truck from a guy who was pretty sharp and put a real nice exhaust and several custom mods on the truck. I know that 4.3 liter trucks in 94 and 5 game with the L35 "vortec" heads that came under the regular TBI intake and in 96 they changed the heads a bit more and swapped over to the 8 bolt flange. Also are you 100% positive you have these casting heads? You should pull the valve cover off and double check your casting numbers. Finally do you have reciepts for the engine build? It's all to common for someone to say they have a 10,000 dollar engine when really they have a basic 500 dollar rebuild that's in good tune with a bigger cam that kills stock cars, it would be nearly impossible to know if they actually had what they say in it. One of the main reasons I ask this is because I was always told that even the quiet gear drives will wreak havoc on a TPI cars knock sensor. I'm not trying to put your car down at all btw I'm just trying to help you get solid information on what you have and what kind of potential it has in it.

and also they couldnt drive well on the street, so you probly killed them bad on the launch which makes a big difference on the street. thats how you got so far in front i would say.

Re: horsepower estimate please.
thats easy...their cars were beat on and werent running in the right condition. thsoe stock 230 hp cars only put down 210whp at most, usually. 305 rated at 215 may put down 190whp. your probly around 220whp.

All you gotta do is go get some 1/4 mile times. This hypothetical number wrangling and vague comparisons using vague terms means absolutely nothing because no one knows. They gave an estimate, you disagree, so go see what it will do. It's time to put your ego where your mouth is.

I use to have an LB9 with some bolt ons that ran with 350's. I though it was the greatest thing next to sliced bread, until I found out it ran 14.9's.

please let the nonsense stop...
bmf it seems you have found most people a little skeptical of your claims... they aren't calling you a liar... it is just alot have people have seen the 193 heads in action... i am one of them i wasn't impressed but with the amount of work in P&P of those heads (removing the stupidest thing i have ever seen the "ramp") it is hard to say for sure what kind of HP you are putting out...
cause i have only seen it done once before and never put on a engine
although i think some people might have missed that you have a 3.42:1 rear which is probably better than the other cars you probably did beat them... 10 car lengths is alot but not impossible

okay, just measured out a quarter mile(1320ft)ran it twice, and you guys are never gonna believe what i ran ,97mph @ 3000rpm in the quarter mile ,shifting at 5000rpm and using a sunpro tach so i could get a more accurate rpm reading ,whats a good horsepower estimate website?

no nonsense here, im just telling my truthful experiences and what my car really can do believe it or not.

Re: horsepower estimate please.
oh yeah also i beat a 98 dodge neon r/t
if it was abit closer then i'd say your trapping upwards of 94-95mph. But now you say 97 mph estimated from a 1/4 mile so it would seem about right, you could be anywhere from 94-99 mph trapping because factory gauges arent always close...but if you go by tire size, gearing and rpm, you can make a good estimate at the speed. if it is 97, then that would imply you have around 230whp....which is not bad from a 305 TPI car
Re: horsepower estimate please.
i just went to www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm and estimated my horsepower and it said a 3500lb car doing 97mph in the 1/4mile was about 249whp and 294hp at the flywheel, and in also estimated my mph from rpm range ,with a wheel diameter of 26.18''(235/55/r16s)and a gear ratio of 2.394(rear gear ratio3.42)x(0.7overdrive ratio)=2.394)and it says at 3000rpm(in overdrive)my car should be doing about 97.63mph which is pretty much the same my speedo(stock) and tach (Sunpro drag'n tach)said(97mph@3000rpm).which means its doin about 14.058 seconds in the 1/4 if my math is correct. not to shabby for a 305.

nope the math doesnt work the 700R4 with 3.42 gears cant do 93@3000 unless you are in second then you are only doing 83...so your speedo is off or your tac...

Re: horsepower estimate please.
if you were shifting at 5000RPM then the first time you saw 90+MPH was at 4000RPMS in 3rd and you couldnt have been in 4th unless you were doing about 116 @ 3000 or 2nd with 42@ 3000
Re: horsepower estimate please.
umm what?im pretty sure i was driving and i was shifting at ROUGHLY 5000rpm and when i hit the finish line the tach said 3000 actually almost 3100rpm and the speedo said ABOUT 97MPH in fourth gear.

well when you shift at 5000 you wont see 90+MPH until 4000RPMS in 3rd gear (ie. 2nd gear at 5000RPMS is 41+/- ) that is of course assuming you TC is locked probably wasnt but it shouldnt be that far off

Re: horsepower estimate please.
and speed worlds calcs are setup a little wierd... yes you would be doing 96 MPH in 4th gear at 3000 IF you could place the tranny in 4th at the line and actually launch the car... otherwise you would place id in D or OD and already be doing 90+ at 4000 in 3rd gear so unless you actually slowed down and didnt shift into 4th then you were either turning the engine faster or going faster...or slower for that matter
Re: horsepower estimate please.
yeah i shifted into fourth about 100ft before the finishline but regardless aftermarket tach said 3000rpm in overdrive and stock speedo said about 97mph at the finish line, believe it or not.

Still pretty slow.

sorry the math just doesnt seem to work.... some where you lost a 1000 RPMS and 17 MPH... someone will explain it better tommorrow or tell me i am way off base
Re: horsepower estimate please.
well hey buddy im not rich and its mine so i couldn't give a crap less what you think about my car.
----------
i dont understand how im that far off,why dont you explain it to me,i dont understand why you are saying i cant be doing roughly 97mph @ 3000rpm in overdrive, lets say my stock speedo is off how fast would i b going in overdrive @3000rpm roughly?

okay, just measured out a quarter mile(1320ft)ran it twice, and you guys are never gonna believe what i ran ,97mph @ 3000rpm in the quarter mile
And dont necessarily go by speedworldmotorplex calculator. its off in my case. I weighed my car at 3400lbs even, with almost half tank gas. my race weight now with smog delete and less than 1/4 tank is hovering around 3510lbs. my car dynos 250whp and runs 13.46 at 99.6. the calculator estimates 271 whp.....i dont make that yet lol i think your around 230whp
oh and overdrive with 3.42 gears and 25.7 inch street tire is 96-97mph
but in a 1/4 mile you shouldnt be in overdrive at all
