383 windage tray

3rd time i'm typing this. (stupid storm)

I've done a search that netted me 54 threads. None of which really answered my question. So here goes.

92 350 becoming a 383
Forged Eagle crank and 6" rods
Stock oil pan

Is there a screened windage tray that'll fit this rotating assembly AND a stock pan? I already have the windage tray studs getting installed.

speedwaymotors wants to sell me a whole pan with the tray installed. Not something I want to do.

Help?

Re: 383 windage tray

I've used the Moroso 23020 with A stock oil pan in 400s; should fit 383s; not the one out of one of these cars though. This one. http://www.sdparts.com/product/36045...Z28OilPan.aspx Although, the description isn't real clear: this pan REQUIRES a windage tray. Use either the GM studs for it part # 3872718, or the ARP ones.

Re: 383 windage tray

I'd like to keep the stock pan since it's fairly new and I already have it. That particular pan is also for a 2 pc seal.

Speedway motors wants to sell me this pan. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/4879...temNo=91015136

They claim it'll clear a stroker. Thoughts on this?
Again though, i'd prefer to stick with my stocker.

Re: 383 windage tray

You could try the Speedway windage tray and see what happens. You would only be out the $35 or so dollars if it did not work but a big savings if it does. Then again it might be easy to make it clear.

Re: 383 windage tray

I don't know if they're feeding me a line or not but they said that windage try will not work on a stroker.
I may try it anyway or I may just go without the tray. At least the studs will be installed if I ever change my mind.

Re: 383 windage tray

There was quite abit of clearance on my 355 build. Of course you would need the .250" plus the safety factor. Not sure what the safety clearance would be maybe .060"? There was some room to extend the windage tray with washers on my build.

Re: 383 windage tray

A little update.
I figured what the heck and decided to get the speedway tray. The one that Speedway said would NOT work on a 383. BS!!
I didn't have to cut a thing. I just had to bend the front of the tray inward a little bit, trim around the rear mount hole, and get crazy with their baffle.

So, for simplicity's sake, A Speedwaymotors.com tray WILL fit a 383 6" rods and stock pan setup.

Good news. The Speedway windage tray is a good value.

Re: 383 windage tray

Re: 383 windage tray

Definitely good. ESPECIALLY for only ~35 bucks.
