Was wondering if anyone can tell me why my fuel pump is screaming. The pump that is in it is not that old but I dont drive the car hardly at all. The car sat in my trailer for about 4 months. I had to put a new battery in the car to move it. Backed it into the garage to replace the hatch pull down. Drove it out and stopped on the incline on my driveway. It would not stay running, put a couple of gallons of gas in it and when I started it.......WHHHHIIINNNEEE!

 

Come on I know someone has had this trouble before--- and yes I searched.

 

Pump will be very noisy when running dry! Make sure that you have at least 1/4 tank for steady delivery and pump cooling. //RF

 

I just replaced my fuel pump and it too seems pretty loud. My old one did too but it was startin to take a sh** on me. Do all of these sound like this?

I have the intank fuel pump if that makes a difference.

 

OK is it AC-Delco pump???
It's possible that you just hearing pump resonating inside almost empty tank.
Another possibility is that the hose between pump and feed through is broken. Check if FP gets quiet by dead-heading the pump. Defective pumps are very common, especially the ones made in China.

Where would i get an AC delco pump? i was in need of one and just went down to autozone (I only do this if i have to cuz...u know...its autozone).

It does it with the tank full, empty, it doesnt seem to matter.

Well, we're all here trying to solve problems or help others to solve problems. Dead-heading a pump refers to a test procedure when one is "pinching" the return fuel line completely off. This can be done using several well know methods (see service manual or Fuel pressure tester documentation). This means that fuel is not returned back to the tank. Consequently you should have a fuel pressure gauge connected on the supply side and see immediate pressure rise to a maximum that FP can deliver. If you have a bad pump, or a bad in tank hose pressure rise will be very small or non existent. With a stock TBI pump you may see 20 to 25 psi, while TPI may peak well above 60 psi. Warning - this test will stress all fuel line components (hoses, clamps, FP, etc) !

 

It is fine 85, no problem... I am not getting anywhere this way
