I recently purchased an '89 GTA which ran decent (bogs out) but idled pretty rough; Now it idles worse (but bogs out the same), back fires and smells like gas from the rear of the car. The car came with what I'm guessing were ac delco ignition wires with ac delco plugs that where smothered in oil. just recently I replaced all the plugs but one (you guessed it lucky # 8) w/ bosch 4 pt. platinums and put in a set of taylor spiro wires which the owner included with the car; one of the wires is burned by the the plug boot and is exposed a bit while the #8 plug wire is in a very tight spot b/c of the header and it appears to be plugged in fully since it wont go in anymore...not 100% sure though! Let me also mention that it has a header leak as well; When I purchased the car, the owner told me to flush out the injectors because it was sitting for a while with bad gas. Im just giving a general overview of the car's status right now; hopefully by reading this someone can help me out by telling me whats causing my car to idle so rough and backfire.
