To motor mount or not,

that is the question.
New engine, front-end rebuild, etc., etc., so now is the
time from a convenience stand-point. However, at
$45 per unit, I'm not sure I see the cost effectiveness,
considering the existing units still APPEAR structurally sound.
(I can't move the rubber around by hand.)

So, anyone got insight about what indicates wear, and whether
it's worth replacement costs?

thanks,
kk

you can get new moog replacements for like $10-$12 a piece.

Re: To motor mount or not,

Well butter my butt, & call me a biscuit,
that makes it an economic no-brainer.
The price I have is from Performance Suspension Technology.
I like their poly-urethane suspension stuff, but maybe these
items just aren't cost-effective. I assume any of the garden
variety parts stores should carry these items?

thanks,
kk

Re: To motor mount or not,

Ya most parts stores cary them. I wouldent get poly if it is a street car. They will make everything rattle.

Re: To motor mount or not,

if it's a daily driven car, i will not suggest the poly mounts. it's just too stiff. but for a weekend warrior, it's not a bad idea, as they NEVER wear out. my car is pretty much a racecar only now, though i've run the same SOLID mounts for the last 5 years. way too rough for a street car though. i'm picking up an IROC soon and i'm gonna replace the mounts with new MOOG stuff.

i work at O'Reilly Auto Parts and that's the only reason i new that price. i got board last week and started looking up random stuff. starting pulling parts just to check out what a brand new something looks like, lol! i've even got a pic on my phone comparing the size of the stock thirdgen front brake pads with the stock ls1 front brake pads...just cause i could.

Re: To motor mount or not,

"Rattle"... that's the kind of info I was hoping for.

But then what about poly for the suspension (a-frame)
bushings?

Re: To motor mount or not,

they are not near as close to the engine and will ride much better than the stock rubbers in my opinion. i think you'd be much more happy with the improved handling abilities of a poly bushing in the suspension than you would be upset by the slightly harsher ride. if it were me, and it was a dialy driver, i'd have poly bushings everywhere EXCEPT the motor mounts. i'd do the transmission mount in a heart beat for reliabilities sake. my little v6 used to rip the stock rubber replacement trans mounts so i know that any v8 car could and will. so a poly bushing went in over 8 years ago and i've never ripped it up since then. it's been on a BUNCH of different trans and engine combos too.
