Hey whats that thing sticking out of my 5.0 block just above the oil filter, and how do I make it stop leaking. It's about 2 inches long and has a wire coming off of it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Oil pressure sender/cut off switch.
Make it stop leaking by removing it,
and teflon tape the threads.. Silicone
is not practical with the amount of
pressure in that area.

Is there a hex on it somewhere for a wrench? I was thinking it was smooth end to end. Did you sleep at your PC, amigo?

It's a large hex about an inch away from the block.
I used GMS to seal mine. No leaks.

Most parts stores sell the socket that's made specifically for removing it. It's a royal PITA to get off with most standard tools. I would also suggest just putting a new one on while you're at it. The threads might be leaking, but a lot of times, the sending unit itself develops a leak. If you get a new one, and it has pre-applied sealant on the threads, usually orange in color, go ahead and just put it in. If the threads are bare, or you're putting the old one back in, use the liquid pipe thread sealant that comes in the little white tube (i.e. Loctite PST).

Sounds like good advice to me. Think I'll pick up a new one.
Maybe a new one will read a little higher on the oil pressure gauge. I can use every psi I can get.
