Engine won't start, after rebuild
Hey,
got some problems at the moment.
I did some kind of a rebuild on my 305. New heads, cam, headers, manifold...
When I started the car for the first time last week, it was running right away. I just had to fill some gas in the carb.
The ignition wasn't right, just "adjusted" it by hand. While the engine was running, I spotted some minor leaks I had to work one, so I turned the engine off.
Second try, with all leaks fixed. Engine started by the first turn of the key, but wasn't running too long, because the fule line were clogged. And the carb wasn't gettin' enough gas. So it died.
Problem solved, third starting attempt. Engine was firing, but not running.
And since than, that is my problem. Won't start anymore. Thing, which is making me clueless is, that the engine is just turning, nut no more firing. The ignition is now 8 degrees before TDC. Because of the many trys after that, I removed all sparks plug to dry them. Then I looked if there's a spark, so I holded one plug against the engine, and started. Spark were there. So in my opinion, there must be a spark while starting. Filled some gas in the carb, but didn't start either. But I guess, it gets enough gas, 'cause every time I pull the
cable from the padle, you can see how there gets gas in the carb. By the acclerator pump (sry, i don't know if it is the correct english word for that
)
So, as a resumee, I'd say. Engine got gas, gotta spark. Why it isn't running anymore????
Hope you guys can give me a hint for that.

Re: Engine won't start, after rebuild
i would check again for good fuel delivery and maybe use some sort of starter spray!? the only thing else i could think of would be timing, but as long as you haven't altered it while solving the last problem you should be fine on this one.. and yes, it is called accelerator pump.
so what did you work on between second and third starting attempt?
