Won't Run After Sitting

89 Camaro, 305/TBI, AT/Turbo350

Here's the Story behind the car.

I bought the car for $250 from a freind, the body is in excellent shape but the electrics arent. At one point in time someone installed an in-line fuel pump. The pump that was on it was a Holley Blue, it went out and i installed an airtex inline pump for tbi in its place. The fuel flows freely down from the tank and to the pump and retains proper fuel pressure at the injectors. I've checked the plugs/wires and spray of the injectors all are fine. Distributor/rotor and cap are fine as well. It wont throw me any codes so i'm in the dark.

And here's my problem.

After sitting for a long period of time, 4+ hours the car will crank and start but wont stay running. In order to get it to start you have to bump the gas a bit and it will fire, but if you let off the gas it immediatly stalls out. On this initial start up it cuts out horribly at any rpm lower than 4K. If you slowly let it back down from 4k+ it will eventually idle and run in any rpm range. Then as soon as you click it into gear it will die unless you're quick on the throttle and take off down the road. After you've got it moving and come to a stop in gear it usually idles. Somedays it will idle while in gear but cuts out while going down the road others it will run without a hitch except on intial start-up and wont cut out at all. Once you've got it to idle you can shut it off and it will sart right up and idle.

any ideas? ive got no cash so i cant start fresh with it.

This is a tough one to crack.
What happens to fuel pressure after it sits for four hours??? The reason why I am asking this question is that Holley Blue can have 110 GPH (free flow) and according to Holley was not designed or recommended for use with fuel injection systems. What might be happening is that fuel pressure drops too low, but enough to get things going.
Since ignition and ECM side of things appear to be in good shape it may be external pump. If you have to keep external pump - I had decent luck with Carter P5001 in my conversions.

In grand scheme of things - I would get rid of external pump. Drop the tank and install in tank pump. In tank pumps do not have lift fuel very far and tend to last longer.
