Can the valves be smog related?

I want to get my car to pass smog soon and I know my valves need to be looked at. I want to take care of the smog first, but dealing the valves is a bitch. Will the valves be a smog issue?

Re: Can the valves be smog related?

your valves will only be an issue if they arent closing all the way. If you need to adjust your hydaulic valves then you probably have some bad lifters or a worn cam lobe. Intake gaskets are cheap take a look inside and verify that all is good before you see Mr. Smogchecker. do a good once over of all vacuum lines, have a fresh oil change, look at your exhaust for any leaks, and give the enginebay a bath a day before you go so you can see any leaks that need attention.

So there should be no need to remove the cylinder heads unless a valve job is needed and which I don't is needed?
