question about the fan of a 1986 z28

Ok i have noticed that the fan in my '86 Z isn't stock... its a 89 cavalier fan that is rigged from the fuse box so that when the ignition is on the fan comes on. Well my car has a TPI 305 and i was wondering what type of fan it was supposed to have... clutch or electric? Im just really lost about this one guys. Plz help. -Matt
