Re: 383 Stroker Build - Need Advice

first you are planning on running what for gas with 12:1 CR

second that cam will be to small think 300* advert. duration minimum

third if you plan on driving this engine on the street ever... forget about the 650DPs i would say mighty Demon 825 would give way better street manners than the 650DPs

do you want the tunnel ram for looks?
Did you look at the RPM Air Gap or the Victor JR?

Im working on a 383 myself

*EDIT, just read your sig and noticed the Air Gap in there. Did you ever dyno or run the 355? If so, what were the results?

Re: 383 Stroker Build - Need Advice

we have 94 octane here is that ok to run with this motor?

that cam would be too small? well what should i get?

i dont mind running an 825 mighty demon i know im gonna need it.

fast regal yeah i like the look of the tunnel ram would it not give me any more power then a single plane intake?

with the air gap on the 355 i ran 12.9 @ 110mph with a 2.2 60 foot i know i could run low 12's with stickier tires.

i highly doubt that 12.5:1 CR will run on 94 octane...

and yes i think the cam is to small for 550FWHP

A stock 400 crankshaft is just cast steel not ideal for 12.5 to 1 comp. also you will need to run a 50/50 mix of race gas and 92 octane for that kind of compression

well maybe i dont need 12.5:1 compression i thought it would make it run better. but i want to be able to drive once a week around town. with 70cc heads and forged flat tops 2 valve relief only be around 10.5:1 right

Re: 383 Stroker Build - Need Advice

I would build it with 10.5:1 compression and use a solid roller cam with 260deg@.050 duration and .630" lift on 107LSA .,Everything else looks good.
you'd want about a 4000-4500 stall converter and a 1-3/4" race header.

You can run around town and cruise around with 12.5:1 compression on 94 octane if you dial back the spark advance a bit ( 4 to 6deg) ,but for maximum power your going to want to run optimum timing and 110 octane race gas.

If you want a true hassle free reliable "pump gas motor" that you don't have to play with fuel and timing and ride the edge, build it around 10.5:1 with proper quench for 94 octane. You'll make lots of power and go fast for many a mile.

Depending on the exact valve relief volume of a 383 flat top (5 to 7cc) typical on a "0decked" 383 using a felpro gasket and 70cc heads the cr will be 10.14 to 10.36:1.

I would bore and hone and clearance the block and preassemble the rotating assembley, heads and valve train and check valve to piston clearance and then deck the block as required allowing for .100"+ valve to piston clearance and then flat mill the heads if nessessary to target 10.5:1 cr finished.
if you ahveto compromise the finished cr a few point s to maintain power valve to piston clearance than so be it.

Re: 383 Stroker Build - Need Advice

im not sure on the duration with the cam u picked.

but im putting a 383 together for a target 500fwhp
i got HSR and fuel rail kit
58mm TB
30lb SVO INJECTORS
patriot performance 195cc heads
.100 longer compcams xtreme energy pushrods
comp cams XFI 280, 230/236 duration at .050, .576/.571 lift, 113 lobe
1.6 aluminum RR
new roller lifters/cloyes true double roller
custom tuned chip
headman longtubes with true dual 3" with 3"xpipe and turndowns.

again i would like targeted 500fwhp and im looking for a stroker kit that will give me around 9.5:1 compression (maybe a supercharger in the future) so if u recomend any products i would appreciate it. and wat my target Hp/target will be with the above combo
