OK here it is!...running again!

I still have the problem with not being able to time it the correct way but oh well.....I had to replacet the O2 cause it got wet and was causing it to run VERY rich and then VERY lean at different times but thats fixed now....I feel like Im getting extreme spark knock at the high RPM's ...im running autolites 9724's gapped at 35...should I run a different gap? I have the fuel pressure set at about 42psi....I still have some tweaking to do but its up and running....Ive already been WOT but at from a low speed is when I get the spark knock....or atleast I think thats what it is....cause if I try to take it past 5000 or more the tack freaks out and that when I hear and feel it....and it cuts the power down.

anyways heres a vid......oh and one thing I noticed is the HSR buzzes like a crazy....and the pro mags are noisy as can be!

Re: OK here it is!...running again!

as far as the buzzing ...which you can kinda hear on the vid, its the odd sound that you hear....its coming from the HSR plenum cause I can lay my ear on top of it and thats where its coming from. Im just thinking that its suppose to be like that cause whats in there that would make that sound? nothing!....

glad to see you've kept at it and gotten everything back together without killing yourself.
is the buzzing a vacuum leak? cant really hear it in the video, resonance from airflow?. my rockers are noisy too.

Re: OK here it is!...running again!

yeah it did about kill me but I was so jacked about getting it in and running I got thru it!>...LOL

as for the buzzing?...I dont know what it is....now that you mentioned a vaccum leak...how can I check for that? there are only 3 connection in the back that take vaccum...the fue pressure, the brake booster and the cruise control....thats its...as far asI know....when I put the pleum back on the gaskets were messed up so I just used RTV on the bottom meeting the intake.

Re: OK here it is!...running again!

Your Pro mags need to be readjusted they are making a lot of noise, do you have forged pistons in that motor they tend to make some noise sometimes in a cold motor too.

Re: OK here it is!...running again!

I adjusted them the way comp instructions say to.....move the pushrod till the up and down movements stops and then go 1/2 turn more to give the correct preload. ...gotta remember I also have the rev kit installed dont know if those can be some of the noise.
I can always go another 1/4 turn on the locknuts on all the rockers....comp calls for 1/3 to 3/4 turn past zero....so maybe I can just turn them all 1/4 turn more without getting them on the TDC mark first...cause it will be hard to turn the motor over by hand with all the plugs in.
The real strong noise you hear which im sure you think are the rockers is the buzzing noise coming from inside the plenum of the steathram at the beginning and the end of the video

the rockers can barely be heard when I take the camera close to the covers.

You're adjusting the valves at TDC?

Re: OK here it is!...running again!

I'm glad to see it back functional again.

How does it do when you adjust them the EASY and FOOLPROOF (me-proof ) way; with the engine running?

LOL...ive done this a few times on this motor... LOL....so yeah I do them at TDC on 1 and then do the certain rockers and roll it over to #6 and do the remaining rockers...

I might just add a 1/4 turn to all of them.

Re: OK here it is!...running again!

That's the hard, unreliable, and subjective way. Good for getting it close; but not necessarily perfect. Too many variables.

Try the engine running method, it's harder to make a mistake with that.

It's not TDC, either.

However, it works well for solid lifters. Can't adjust them with the engine running.

whadda you mean? oh and if ..just if the rockers are a little loose would that make some kind of valve float or somthing like that when I get in the upper RPM's cause not Im starting to think that is whats happening when I get way up there...

On a side note..MAN IM PISSED...the damn oil pan is leaking in the rear where it meets the rubber gaskets on the curve right below the rear main seal!>......Im going back to the engine shop in the morning to ask them about it...I AM NOT PULLING THAT ENGINE AGAIN!!!

The method you posted puts the lifter on the heal of the lobe for the valve you are adjusting. "TDC" refers to the position of the piston, and the piston isn't at TDC for either of the adjustments.

Being too loose probably won't cause float, but may cause weird things to happen. Proper is the best adjustment.
