how a starter works
i just got dont installing a powermaster mini starter on my car the powermax model. My factory one had a shim so i left a shim on the new starter for one the starter sounds way different then the factory one my dad said it sounded like it was grinding the flexplate which is impossible because the motor has no plugs or wires hooked up and i was using a bump starter to rotate the motor so i guess its just noisy he said its like a chrystler. anyways my main question is how does the starter pinion pull itself out of the flywheel and back into the starter? right now it just bumping the motor over the starter pinion stays ingaged in the flywheel. Its got me worried but does the motor have to start to disengage the starter pinion?

Powermaster starters are a gear reduction starter. Which is why your Dad says it sounds like a Chrysler. DJ
