today it was running fine in the morning. i stopped to get gas and after i was done filling i put it in reverse and it died. it died 3 more times before i decided to just put it in drive and get around a few cars to get out. i noticed the engine was cutting out and idling really low so i turned it up a little. it idles in park and neutral at about 1000 for now, in drive it bounces between 600-775 if i had to guess. but in reverse it drops to 500ish and itll die 2/10 times. from reverse to drive it stays choppy and theres a bit of lag between me giving it gas and it actually accelerating. i have no idea what the problem really is so can anyone take a guess for me?

 

I'd measure the fuel pressure first.

yea my bad i was in a bit of a hurry to get to work before. And heres the thing... its an 88 originally with a 5.0, the previous owner put in a 5.7 but i havent had time to tear into it yet until i put it up for winter. all i can tell you is the guy has "a performance cam" in it, its fuel injected with what i think is the holley projection TBI system and pro-jection intake manifold, and hooker headers. Im new to all of this so dont crucify me if i sound like a dumbass right now and sorry i cant give any more info.

ok, so between my first post and now i called the previous owner and he said something about me ****ing with the idle throwing the cam off and i should try turning it back down to where it was when i first bought the car from him. I did and so far it seems to be working, but i dont know if hes feeding me a line of crap or not. any thoughts on that one?

 

sure if it is really running holley EFI you need to start learning about the holley system... as it isnt really the same as a stock ecm...

although i cant see how increasing the idle speed would cause a problem that had started even before you thought about increasing it...

 

i dont know either, but at the end of the month im calling it a season and getting the car ready for winter so i can mess around with it as much as i want til i figure out what the problem really is
