thermostat housing question
We just swapped in a new intake on my l69 305 and holley avenger in place of the quadra jet. On the intake elbow thermostat housing there is some sort of vacuum sensor and an electrical senor we were wondering if they did anything important or could we just plug it off.

Not since you downgraded the carb to the Street Avenger.
What did you use for a distributor?

Re: Intake elbow question
He had a vacuum advance HEI, street avenger, and a performer RPM intake from another motor.
Everything is pretty much together. Just a few odds and ends.
I doubt it will be a downgrade. The q-jet has been q-junk. He has tried everything and it has never ran correctly. Ever...
I can tune a holley carb pretty well so I am hoping to get it running pretty good.
A lot of stuff was removed in this swap.

Not much detail was provided. You appear to have intimate knowledge of the situation. If questions have been asked about getting the q-jet running properly, I'm afraid I just don't remember every member's issues off the top of my head.
See https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/faq-...-diagrams.html The sensors on top of the thermostat housing are the "Coolant Temperature Sensor" or CTS, and the early fuel evaporation (EFE) thermal vacuum switch (TVS). The EFE will just stay open if you don't connect the TVS, assuming you still have the EFE valve in the exhaust.
Why the Street Avenger? Expensive part for what you get. With a T5, a double pumper would be the better choice.
I've owned a lot of q-jets over the years, and two computer controlled versions (along with others owned by family members). The 3rd gen CC q-jets are the best of the bunch. I didn't see any improvement when going with a Holley, and there were plenty of disadvantages. And it's not like I can't tune a Holley. Perhaps the q-jets I've had are exceptionally good, but somehow I doubt it (usually the other way around for me). Granted, the q-jet probably isn't the best choice with a T5, but it's better than the SA.
Hope the conversion goes well for you.

Re: Intake elbow question
I'm using the holley because I got it for free. Buddy of mine built a street 350 and ended up selling it before he put that carb on it so he gave it to me for free since he had nothing to use it anymore and I did. The q-jet is an original Rochester off of my 84z h.o. and it's seen better days. Nothing works right on it anymore, the cruise control went out, i'm sure the rods need replaced, try as I might I can't the the vacuum system to work correctly. It's just a Pita, when I have a perfectly good 670 avenger setting on my built 350. Also I was wanting to upgrade the stock intake to my performer rpm intake off the 350 as well (figure I might as well use the 169 till it dies then throw the 350 in there) and it's a square bore so the q-jet won't work on it, and even if I got an adapter then i'd run into hood clearance problems most likely. So the easiest way is to just use the 670. Only thing I'll miss from the q-jet was the gas mileage... 21 city, 27 highway. Thank you for the info on the thermostat housing tho =)

Re: Intake elbow question
His engine bay looks much better now. I have never seen so much crap under a hood of a camaro and I drive an lt1. To many vacuum lines and emissions stuff.
I think it will run decent with the carb but I have a feeling its going to run very rich.
