350TPI Need Help Please

Hello all,

I have been building an 89 camaro and am having all kinds of problems. I've searched through the boards and have tried many things with no success so far. Heres whats going on...

I have spark and can get the car to sputter over on starting fluid and idle but I have no injector pulse. There is voltage at the injectors on both sides. There is plenty of fuel pressure. I checked the computer and it had a pin ripped out so I bought a new computer and chip from an 89 350 tpi just to be sure. Still no injector pulse. I have a noid light and it is not lighting up. Tried the tester on friends 355 tpi and it lights up fine.

Now to cover VATS. I believe the steering column is not original (vats wires are cut and white on one side and yellow on the other) so I went to radio shack and bought myself a big pack of resisters and went to town soldering up all 15 different resistances and tested them one at a time waiting 10-15min between tries. Have done this 3 times (twice on old ecm once on the new one).

Also whoever owned the car before me I think had a problem with the vats as well because they decided to cut the fuel pump wire and put the fuel pump on a toggle switch (think they had a carbed 350)

Also I have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and the electronic sending unit is not there so it is not hooked up.

The distributor is out of a running and driving Iroc so I don't believe that is the problem.

I have two spark controls and have tried both still with no luck.

Could it be because of:
- the oil pressure sender not sending the computer a signal?
- the fuel pump not being connected to the rest of everything?
- the vats even though I thought I pretty well covered testing it?
- the car hates me?

I need any help that all of you can give me. I've been working on this car all summer and fall. I need to get it running before the winter hits. It's so close to being done and I just need help with this last little bit. Thank you all for any help you can give me.

Another thing is I just looked at the car again today and remembered something. I don't have the original gauge cover on so I put the original back on and there is a security light lighting up. not sure if that helps anyone.

I'd say Vats is screwing things up. i believe if the key isnt the right one for the car (wrong resistance or no resistance chip in the key at all) then the motor will crank but not fire the injectors. also disables the starter sometimes unless you bypass the VATS wiring. I think since the wiring is gone, the starter will work but the computer is not firing the injectors.

gettin that vats disabled will be the simple thing to try.
