power steering pump

hello,
ive been having the problem with my power steering pump. Every time i am turning slow the pump makes a terrible screeching sound but if i am turning with some speed it doesn't make the noise. i was wondering if the fluid just needs changed, or if i should replace the pump and get a whole new set up?

thanks
-Jim

Are you sure it's the pump, or is it just the belt?

Re: power steering pump

all the v- belts are brand new within a year old. so unless its not tight i don't think that the belt is the problem.

The description sounds more like a loose belt than a bad pump. But, having not heard it myself. . .

Re: power steering pump

it's a loose belt. I just fixed mine last night. It was doing the same thing. When your dealing with power steering, the tighter the belt, the better.
