This engine isnt in a 3rd gen but in a 94 blazer and I am thinking of picking it up real cheap. The truck starts right up but after 10 seconds, it just dies. It will start right back up again and do the same thing over and over again. my buddy said he was having trouble with it stalling and stumbling while he was driving it last week and he ended up parking it. I can rev the engine up to 3K to keep it running a bit longer but evenually, it stumble and the rpms just drop and it shuts off. What was some common trouble areas to look at? Does this sound like a fuel pump issue? if it matters, this engine does this from a cold start.

I have not got into checking this out yet on the truck because it is not mine. Please help, I need a truck to tow the hod rod

 

I'm no mechanic but I believe I've had the same problem years ago. It was an uber-clogged fuel filter.

 

Check Fuel Pressure. It is very common for in tank fuel pumps to get tired over time.

ya thats where I plan to look first. I am currently looking for info on the whereabouts of the shrader valve on this truck to check the pressure.

tbi=no shrader ... you disconnect fuel lines and connect a inline pressure gauge. On my T/A I got a pressure gauge at kragen unscred the softlines and theres an adapter with a shrader valve and you screw it onto the fuel lines.

 

I just got the truck towed to my house and took a look under the truck and there is an inline T fitting just after the fuel filter. This must have been added from a previous owner. Good news for me I guess. I will hopefully try to get a fuel pressure tester and check it with the key in the run position.
